Life is a wobble bass

I wonder how did the English get from talking impersonally by using phrases like "thou shalt", "one must" to using a word like zoom.

What I mean is - was there a particular moment when some people just stopped and said "wow, we've just invented a device that magnifies!" and then followed the inherent question "what should one name this contraption?" with the awkwardly onomatopoeic "ZOOM!"??

edit> But a friend was troubled by its use in the romanian translation of a book. My suggestion was that it's probably already in the dictionary as a loaned word. Apparently I was right, as its definition according to the "Marele dictionar de neologisme" of 2000 is

"ZOOM s.n. 1. Efect de travelling cu ajutorul unui obiectiv cu distanța focală continuu variabilă."

If your loaned word definition is based on other loaned words maybe you should reconsider the whole thing...
